Schools Total Health Program

A locally developed, comprehensive school health and living skills curriculum

The development of usable, realistic health and living skills education programs is essential in today's world. These programs are imperative for the health, well-being and personal development of all school aged children and youth. A spirit of love and care must lie behind every facet of the development and implementation of such a program.

Health Education and Promotion International Inc. is committed to assisting educators and education systems worldwide to initiate, establish and implement school health and living skills programs that improve the health of children, youth and the wider community.

Instead of investment in a single/crisis issue project, the "Schools Total Health Program" comprises a sustainable and comprehensive school health and living skills curriculum. It has the potential to reach all children in all schools and therefore shape the outlook of the next generation. The project uses the existing infra-structure of the education system in a given city, state or country in order to reach today’s youth in a meaningful way.

The curriculum focuses attention on significance of personal decisions and behaviours, on human relationships and on community structures and practices in promoting health. An understanding of beliefs, behaviours and policies in the area of health is essential. We aim to empower the student to take both individual and group action necessary for physical, emotional, social, intellectual and spiritual well-being of all those in the community.

The program is needs based and therefore locally developed, has a sound philosophy and goals, is comprehensive in content, looks to improving teaching and learning processes and aims to actively promote the health of individuals, families and communities.

A 400-page Teacher's manual for Schools Total Health Program is available, see publications. This manual will act not only as a stimulus for immediate action, but as a guide for future planning. The protocols established will become the basis for development of all curriculum subjects.
