A LOCALLY DEVELOPED PROGRAM

STEP BY STEP GUIDE TO DEVELOPMENT AND IMPLEMENTATION

1. Invitation by the country/state/education body concerned and initiation for development of a comprehensive health and life skills program for school aged children; the Schools Total Health Program.

2. Formation of a local steering commitee to undertake organisation, building of local support networks, venue selection, participation selection, situational analysis of health problems and facilitation of the implementation of the completed curriculum.

3. Key workshop for curriculum development. A model framework is used to develop a comprehensive health and life skills curriculum by a group of local education and health professionals with the guidance of Health Education & Promotion International Inc. in a concentrated month long workshop.

4. Printing of teacher's manual by the local education authority/other body and Scope and Sequence charts which show the complete spiral curriculum

4. Support seminars for politicians, administrators, officials and opinion leaders

5. Planning for implementation, training and evaluation strategies

6. Widespread training of teacher educators and teachers in the health education subject matter and living skills methodology

7. Continuing evaluation, training, reassessment and redevelopment
